This time of the year I would like to draw your attention to the Costume Institute’s Spring 2024 exhibition and visit the Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, as exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It will run from May 10 to September 2, 2024. This exhibition is featuring 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection.

The exhibition will use a variety of technologies to convey the garments’ smells, sounds, textures, and motions, by the using of artificial intelligence, computer-generated imagery, video animation, and light projections to give the exhibition pieces the multi-dimensions.

This exhibition is curated by Andrew Bolton and Vogue’s Anna Wintour. It is inspired by the classic fable Sleeping Beauty.

“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” is the Met Gala theme in 2024. The message it is trying to bring across is the awakening of the feminine principle that was pricked to sleep by the masculine principle. It is trying to bring out further the message of: “Men and women must seek love to heal the relationship between them and thereby heal the land.”   

We have to understand that due to the sensitivity of textiles, The Costume Institute’s collection is not on permanent public view.
