From the Desk of the Publisher

It is another piece about sneakers and at this time I start with a passion and a new pairs of eyes looking at sneakers. It is an important piece of our accessories aside of the clothing.

With the journal, we have also started to feature the sneakers in the past two years. Not only we pointed out the importance of the tradeshows, but also the sports—marathon running.

This book tells us the collectible sneakers, its resale and even the vintage sneakers. Also, it is definitely a business of its own. I am quite surprised to find out the writer is from Europe and he has an international flare.

I have two more books to report—Sneaker Freaker: The Ultimate Sneaker Book, and Sneaker Freaker: World’s Greatest Sneaker Collector. I would probably feature them in 2024.

The fact is that the books are all very bulky and heavy, and they can be good for the coffee table. They can also be easily used as a conversation piece when friends are dropping by. It is also good to compare those prizes and share our experiences.

It is a comprehensive encyclopedia of 1,000 deadstock sneakers, described as the originals for exclusive and limited-edition releases.

“Deadstock” refers to the authentic, unworn sneakers that were produced for limited-edition releases, limited-run and reruns, or pairs that have otherwise stopped being produced. They are no longer available from the direct retailers. Deadstock is the most desired, exclusive, sought after by the sneakerheads. They are also those valuable sneakers in existence. They are available from direct resell shops and websites.

According to the author, Larry Deadstock only came to his mind more than fifteen years ago when he began to resell sneakers. At that time he was already selling a lot of vintage sneakers and was poking around those flea markets. He grew up in Paris and he started to hunt for the prizes there. Later he visit the sneaker trade show and looked for resale convention with amateur sellers, collectors and also came across some pros. This kind of treasure hunting made the venture more interesting.

Eventually a team was formed with Julien, alias Larry Deadstock; Romain, alias Le Doc; Fakrel, alias Baron and Mehdi, alias Ceasar Salad. They traveled to New York together and brought along their best pairs went to the Sneakers Event to present a table with rare sneakers.

This was followed by their traveling all over Europe where they participated in sixty similar events with a 700-cubic-feet truck loaded with the ultra-limited pairs.

Finally, they decided to set up the bricks and mortar shops under their banners of Larry Deadstock Shop, Chocolateriec (Candy Shop) and Larry Les Bons Tuyauk.

In the book they featured Nike, New Balance, Adidas, Air Jordon, Asics, Diadora, Saucony, Reebok, Puma and Vans. All the shoes have been rated and this can be useful for collectors.

There was also a piece about the history of sneakers in France for those underprivileged communities. Also about their influences to all layers and socioeconomic groups of France’s suburban neighborhoods.

Towards the end of the book, I found the anatomy teaching the readers on sneaker vocabulary. It is really helpful.

Last and not the least, the readers can find the shopping guide for the sneaker shops in major cities. It is helpful for serious collectors.
