This book was written by Eleri Lynn and she introduced her book by stating that over the centuries, fashion has imposed the continuous changes upon the women’s body. The fashionable figures have been evolved from variously slim to voluptuous, from flat-chested to buxom, from androgynous to matronly.
The fashion can further distorted the shape of the body to become wasp-waisted and exaggerated buttocks.
I would say that beauty is to the eyes of the beholders and during the different era in history.
And all these adjustments in silhouette can only achieved with the aid of the underwear and thus the term known as foundationwear came to describe its function.
The author walked us through the collection that is now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, and this part of the very rare undergarments from the sixteenth century to the present day, in the span of 400 years, to form one of the most important collections of historical and fashionable dress in the world.
The book comes with pictures and drawings. I try to select few pictures that can represent the richness of this book. Please try to appreciate the details.
