SPRING/SUMMER 2024
TREND REPORT

Ruffles

The explosion of ruffles this Spring was the most feminine trend on the runways and signals a return to modern, girly glamour. At Badgley Mischka, Victoria Beckham, DSquared2, and Chanel ruffles sat vertically, horizontally, and diagonally across the body. A plethora of frilled edges made a feminine style statement in delicate chiffon, satin, and lace in a sophisticated pastel color palette. Brands such as Port de Bras are incorporating this season’s romantic volume trend into activewear styles. Ruffled shoulders add unexpected luxe detailing to casual, sporty styles. This girly aesthetic on the runways translates perfectly into lingerie styles. Brands like Myla and Journelle make a feminine style statement for Spring by using sheer ruffle detailing on the edges of delicate bra and bikini sets.

Sheer Layers

Transparency was ubiquitous on the Spring runways. Designers such as Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Victoria Beckham, and Badgley Mischka embraced this seasons meant-to-be-seen trend by showing delicate bra tops, satin briefs, and lace bodysuits under see-through tank tops and slipdresses. Satin and tulle are Spring staples for this sheer layering aesthetic. Sportmax used satin and tulle with lace detailing in a pastel palette (including lots of lilac and baby blue) in their casual take on this laid-back, feminine trend. Skin baring styles in layers of sheer tulle are incorporated into innovative lingerie styles by Nensi Dojaka and Chantal Thomass.

3-D Florals

Timeless femininity is updated for Spring with florals that are bigger than ever. Loewe led the way with on the runway with large scale blooms in both prints and oversized floral appliques. Christian Dior and Cynthia Rowley combined large-scale, repeat pattern floral prints with 3-D floral appliques. Bold and bright florals stand out when printed on a black ground. Oversized statement blooms pop when printed and embroidered in a bold palette on lingerie from Fleur du Mal, Agent Provocateur, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Filigree

The all-black fashion trend of AW2023 is sticking around for SS2024. This dark, moody trend is being developed and reinterpreted in sheer textures and delicate filigree lace patterns. This sophisticated gothic glamour showed up on the runways of Dion Lee, Victoria Beckham, Dolce & Gabbana, and Tom Ford. The dark palette of black and purple hues was lightened with pops of color or layered with nude or pale blue. Delicate light-as-air chantilly lace was placed asymmetrically by Kiki de Montparnasse, Karl Lagerfeld, and Maison Close. Sheer allover lace in floral and filigree patterns were used as layering pieces in sheer lace bodysuits from Stella McCartney and bras and briefs from Eres. Sheer styles in delicate patterned lace allow the ubiquitous all-black trend to evolve into Spring styles.
