Catherine Flinn, a former world rowing masters champion, started to share her experience as an aqua-athlete for more than 30 years. She complained that there were not cut properly and they would all ride up and at one point she ended up swimming in cycling shorts.

A functional, flattering swimwear is rare to come by and women have the opinion that wearing a swimsuit is the closest to being naked in public. Unlike for men to think about is the waistband, for women have more to consider—hips and breasts. It make things more complicate.

Most women are prepared to pay for expensive swimwear but there are so many things that can have disappointed them—disintegrating fabric, silly and naive colors, insubstantial shoulder-straps, lack of bottom coverage and cup pads dislodged in water. All these are nightmares to them.

It is no surprise that they yearn for the Victorian bathing suit to restore. When I read that “garnish color and alarming patterns were irritants, look like they were designed by people on LSD’, is no longer something laughable. The industry really has a problem and must put their acts together.

For women to feel confident returning to swimming and active swimwear is the solution, like trainers, sports bras, power leggings in the other categories.

It is advisable to look for those fabrics made from Econyl using recycled fishing nets, scraps of carpets and other plastic waste. And Neoprene is another fabric to look for.

To finish this reporting, we attached five swimwear being tried and tested by Financial Times’ Helen Barrett. Will try to make a complete report with our other research on the same subject. For the time being, you can find the details and you can purchase directly.
