It was not so long ago that we wrote about the fashion guru, Christine Dior, in our October issue. His stay of 53 on earth but he had left a very giant footprint in our fashion world.

The exhibition is showing Dior objects, robe miniatures from the Dior’s official couturiers: Christine Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri. There are also numerous objects, photos and videos on show.

The full life story of Christian Dior was told in our October 2023 issue under the “Fashion Quote of Christian Dior.” Christian Dior, January 21, 1905 to October 24, 1958, was a famous French fashion designer.

Christian Dior launched the “New Look” since the late 1930s. “New Look” is a style of women’s clothing that features round shoulders, a cinched waist, and a full skirt, and he revived it and put Paris as the center of the women’s fashion after World War II.

Christine continued to make statements with this fashion lines which went from year-to-year, and I recap them as the following:

  • the “Carolle” line in 1947;
  • the Envol and Cyclone /Zigzag lines in 1948;
  • the Trompe I’Oeil and Mid-Centurt lines in 1949;
  • the Vertical and Oblique lines in 1950;
  • the Naturelle/Princesse and Longue lines in 1951;
  • the Sinueuse and Prolièe Lines in 1952;
  • the Tulipe and Vivante lines in 1953;
  • the Muguet/Lily of the Valley line and H-Line in 1954;
  • the A-Line and Y-Line in 1955;
  • the Flèche/Arrow and Aimant/Magnet lines in 1956;
  • the Libre/Free and Fuseau/Spindle lines in 1957;
  • the successor Yves Saint Laurent’s Trapeze line in 1958.

He was not only successful in fashion, he also expanded into perfume, and most notably are the “Miss Dior” and “J’adore.”

His influence extended beyond fashion to art, film and culture. He is remembered as an icon and also a legend.

Today, when you enter 30 Avenue Montaigne, you can find the myth of Dior. The exhibition at La Galerie Dior will last through May 13, 2024 and if you happen to be in Paris, please don’t miss this.
