When I was preparing this piece of write up, it gave me a lot of satisfaction to learn more about de minimis. Especially when I investigated the history and found that de minimis happened already in 1938, and during that time the value was for goods worth less than $1 and they wouldn’t be subjected to import taxes. Unfortunately, when this trade loophole came to the knowledge of organized operation like China, they took advantage and not only that, they have been using it to the maximum, but also abused the good intention behind, and further exploited the system. It brought miserable situation for the small businesses.
I am absolutely for this idea that this ought to be stopped and don’t let the e-commerce like Temu and Shein to further controlling the market. Shein was trying to become a listed company to further exploit the market, and I hope that the underwriters ought to know their nature of business and stop this from happening.
I also made a report about the operation about the secondhand clothing. The founder of Vinted, Milda Mitkute, was so smart to free up her wardrobe when she started to move into a tiny apartment. Many of the youngsters I know have turn into minimalists as they realized the challenges that they are facing. I also did a little research and found them in every country. This experience can be used in entrepreneurship.
