Together with the report, lately I have been trying to mention about fashion exhibitions in the museums from the major cities. This time I have found three, Fashion and Sports: From One Podium to Another” in the Musée des Art Décoratifs of Paris, “Fashion and Movement” at Palais Galliera, both are for commemorate of 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
And the third one I have found is the “Cultural of Creativity” organized by Tiffany & Co. in their landmark building at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street.
I want to mention about the picture I have chosen for this writing is taken from the exhibition space in Musée des Art Décoratifs, where a running track has been turned into a fashion runway showing some sport stars wearing attires inspired by fashion designers.
All the other shows are related to lingerie, swimwear, sportswear, shoes, and they can be very useful for our industry.
While I was preparing the report, I have found out that the fashion shows as organized by CFDA, Première Vision, and Curve, which is now owned by WSN, are spread out in different world cities and at different times of the year. Rather than separate them by month, I decided to put them under their own group.
Likewise, we have given a fuller report for the shoes industry for their global shows. We have made the report from April to December in order that the visitors can plan their trips better.
The last thing I would like to mention is the Curve Paris, its predecessor was Salon Internationale de la Lingerie that everyone knows. This time the organizes have moved it to September, along with Interfilière Paris to avoid conflict with the aforementioned 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. We are told that they will move back to July next year.
Opening Remark
I have tried to look for fashion exhibitions and for this issue I was able to find only two during the period and if you are traveling in these cities, please take the opportunity to have a visit and explore for things that are of your interest.
Fashion and Sport at the Musée des Art Décoratifs in Paris
With the 2024 Olympic Games approaching in Paris, the Musée des Art Décoratifs has chosen to link the world of fashion with sports. Clothes, accessories, photographs, paintings, posters and videos are shown in the museum to demonstrate the connection between these two worlds.
Sportswear whether it was designed or used for practice, is presented prominently, and tennis dresses dated from the 19th century have been highlighted. The emblematic yellow jersey of the Tour de France and Lasoste polo shirts, as well as those more recent collections including sneakers and clothing from brands, collaborated between sports and couture which have become a big part of our daily life
“Fashion and Sports: From One Podium to Another” was opened from September 20, 2023 until April 7, 2024.
“Fashion and Movement” which opened in June, 2023 at the Palais Galliera is scheduled until September 7, 2025.
The show is chronological with an initial part showing how athletes at the first Olympics participated in nude. Then it looks at the evolution of sporting attire in the 19th century, became more specific for both individual and team sports, for men and women, without ignoring fashion trends of the time like corsets and bustles.
Fashion pioneers like Jean Patou, Jeanne Lanvin, Gabrielle Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli were all inspiring sports in women’s collections during their time. Then athletes turned fashion entrepreneurs like René Lacoste for tennis, Emilio Pucci for skiing, and Ottavio Missoni for track and field used their sports experiences to shape the aesthetics and materials for the products.
Tiffany & Co. Art Exhibition with Works by Basquiat, Hirst and Others
It will use the top three floors of the Tiffany & Co. landmark building at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street with views of Central Park and the New York City skyline.
The opening of “Culture of Creativity” will showcase 70 contemporary pieces by 26 artists from March 4 to May 20, and works from Jean-Michael Basquiat, Francesco Clemente, Urs Fisher, Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer, and Rashid Johnson.
A large group of Tiffany sterling silver plates, serving dishes and objects from the 1880s is on loan from Peter Marino Art Foundation from Southampton, New York, will be on exhibition as well.
The exhibition’s tickets can be reserved on Tiffany.com starting March 1.
