From the Desk of the Publisher
The piece opened with Yves Saint Laurent’s Rouge Sur Musure Color Compact which allowed the women to color the lips with the 1000 shades with YSL’s exclusive app on iOS and Android.
This is followed by the three brands from the different parts of the world—BUKI, Gräffenberg and PH5—all are related to fashion for the skin care. These companies may not be known as the other fashion companies, but certainly they all have their niches in using the fabrics that are specially treated.
In orders for the readers to take this for the further step, we have attached their websites for the visit at your leisure and perhaps you can also do your shopping online.
This article was prepared by STEAMDesign some time ago and we tried to verify the contents and made sure that they are still current and valid.
To find a good collaborator is not an easy task especially STEAMDesign is based in Shanghai and Beijing. I hope that they can still provide articles about the market but from their own perspective which I found to be invaluable.
“There is always someone who wants to pay attention to their appearance first, then they will come across the fabric with technology, and a new era of beauty begins”
It was in January 2021, YSL took the lead in launching the world’s first private color machine for makeup concept – ROUGE SUR MESURE – which officially open the sales channel in the same year, it made all the girls excited.
There are 4 groups of toners in the whole series, which are red, orange nude and rose. Consumers can choose their favorite color toner and use it with the printer. In order to make the operation more convenient, YSL has also launched a corresponding color matching app.
In terms of color selection, it is particularly user-friendly, and it can used for both chromatographic color selection and real scene color selection.
Even YSL,s exclusive Perso algorithm (artificial intelligence algorithm) can match the right lip color for you according to the color matching aesthetics and your skin tone.

YSL’s lipstick printer allows the public to feel the wonderful experience of combining technology and beauty. If you have 4 sets of toners, you will easily get more than 1,000 color numbers. Such a sense of intuitive output may make most consumers can’t help but admire “the black power technology is really good.”
But in addition to the real lipstick, a new concept has emerged between technology and beauty:
“Beauty products that can be worn on the body.”
It looks like an ordinary underwear, but because of some mysterious operation, it is no longer ordinary.
Let’s take a look at the surprises in the wave of wearable beauty fabrics today.

Skin’s natural barrier to sun protection
BUKI Deep Sea Collagen Peptides
Do you know who is the number one enemy of the skin? Ultraviolet rays are everywhere. It not only makes people tanned and sunburned, but also breaks down the collagen in our skin, causing skin drooping and aging. Many of us remember slathering on our face with sunscreen, but isn’t it true that the skin under our clothes also exposed to the UR rays?
BUKI from Seattle is a brand that focuses on research and development of deep-sea collagen peptides to create luxurious and soft clothing.
As interest in the benefits of collagen increases, collagen products are gaining popularity in areas such as food, cosmetics and health supplements. BUKI’s designer discovered this trend and he proposed an innovative idea, i.e. to “incorporate collagen into clothing to create collagen-containing clothing.” In May 2018, he launched the BUKI collagen series for the first time and it has been releasing since then.
As an industry first, the Collagen Collection fabric is an exclusive BUKI design designed to deliver the moisturizing benefits of collagen directly to the skin.
Unlike other technical fabrics that are constructed using topically applied chemicals or a dipping process, BUKI uses state-of-the-art technology to embed deep sea collagen peptides into each fabric.
When you put on the collagen series, you can feel an unprecedented softness. Since collagen is embedded in the fibers of the fabric, it is also very easy to maintain.
In addition to allow the wearer to feel the moisture that the fabric brings to the skin, it can also provide UPF50+ UV protection to protect the skin from UVA and UVB damage.
While some academics are skeptical about the efficacy of the collagen line, others believe it is real: “If collagen is presence in the clothing, it may prevent moisture from evaporating from the surface, making the skin feel softer.”
Judging from the past sales data of the brand, the sales volume of BUKI collagen series has been tepid since its launch in 2018, but the production has not stopped for more than 5 years, which allows that the products still meet the needs of some consumers.

A touch that improves skin texture
Gräffenberg Copper Oxide and Coenzyme Q10
We all know that as we grow older, everyone’s skin will have aging problems, which is an eternal law of nature, but if there is a clothing that can allow you to improve the speed of aging changes, it will make you feel better every time you touch it. During the process, you can feel the soft texture that the fabric brings you. Perhaps, this will be a good choice for you.
Gräffenberg is a skin care fashion brand from Germany which focuses on the integration of fashion and health, showing people a new way of clothing experience. Ernst is their first collection launching in August 2021.
55% hemp + 23% organic cotton + 22% G Cotton (cotton + copper) = CoQ10 = Gräffenberg Ernst
Every Gräffenberg product is made with 22% G Cotton. To create this technology, we catalyze our 100% natural virgin cotton with copper oxide, transforming it into an antibacterial beauty fiber that gives our fabric a permanent skincare properties and antimicrobial power. In this collection, we infuse our clothing with coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) which unlocks and use to boost our antioxidant complex.
Because of the addition of hemp fiber, the fabric can reduce water consumption during the production process, reduce the generation of textile waste, and achieve environmental protection, energy saving and sustainability.
The injection of coenzyme Q10 not only improves the antibacterial properties of the fabric, but also keeps the clothes fresh for a longer time and reduces the frequency of washing, this means that this product not only protects skin, but also has certain antibacterial properties.
All products do not undergo any dyeing treatment, only to retain the most original color and the most authentic effect of the fabric.
According to AATCC Method 100 – Evaluation of Antimicrobial Finishing of Textiles, test results show the Gräffenberg Ernst fabrics kill more than 99% of bacteria even after 100 industrial launderings.
Gräffenberg Ernst’s collection includes shirts, dresses, brassieres, trousers and shorts, all of which are made in Portugal, with sustainable design concepts guaranteed in every link.
As the largest organ of our body, the skin not only acts as a protective barrier, but also acts as one of the conduits for external substances to enter the body, Every time when clothing touches the skin, it can absorb harmful or toxic chemicals, but it can also healing and rejuvenating active ingredients.
From the concept of the brand, “inject active ingredients with skin care into the fabric, and when our skin comes into contact with these fibers, we can improve the texture of the skin by absorbing the skin care ingredients.”

Hydrating Q bomb sleep time
PH5 Hydraknit™
If we can’t control the aging process of our skin, we have to accept that the hyaluronic acid in our body will continue to decrease as we age. And hyaluronic acid is one of the reasons why the skin looks hydrated and youthful.
About half of our body’s hyaluronic acid is found in the skin where it binds with water to help to keep it hydrated when we supply it to the skin’s surface. Hyaluronic acid serums can also reduce the appearance of wrinkles, redness and dermatitis.
However if there is a piece of clothing containing hyaluronic acid, so that you can enjoy hyaluronic acid running into your skin while you are sleeping. Won’t it be a particularly sensational thing for you?
PH5, a contemporary women’s knitting brand from New York, used its professional knowledge and skills to create the world’s first Hydraknit™ fabric, using yarn technology infused with hyaluronic acid, in their pajamas series which was officially released on October 1, 2021.
Using the new hyaluronic acid microcapsule long-lasting slow release technology, a breathable hydrolipid protective film is formed on the skin surface, which effectively locks the skin’s moisture content, blocks pollution, softens the cuticle and moisturized your skin while you sleep.
This new technology is the soft porous EcoVero viscose yarn infused with hyaluronic acid molecules, which provide unimaginable comfort while also providing the body with the same cosmetic properties as masks and skin care products.
The effective content of hyaluronic acid in the fabric is equivalent to the effect of 3500 facial masks when used for eight hours.
Laboratory testing result showing after 40 washes, the fabric still contains hyaluronic acid.
In terms of overall style designs, PJ5 pajamas have no fancy design, simple and comfortable tailoring, gentle retro color matching, thoughtful socks and eye mask accessories, coupled with the unique elastic properties of knitted fabrics, can make the clothing fashionable and outstanding. It can also fit the human body to the greatest extent.
PH5 is a company established in New York City in 2014. It is an advanced contemporary women’s knitwear brand founded by Wei Lin, daughter of a large knitwear manufacturer in Dongguan, China and designed by a Parsons-trained, award-winning designer, Zoe Champion.
It is a conventional version of knitwear by marrying whimsical designs with architectural dimensions of knitting techniques.
